About the Character
Ianto is a highly capable member of Torchwood with a very dry sense of humour, initially working for Torchwood 3 as a junior archivist. He now works for Torchwood 3 under the cheeky and admiring eyes of Captain Jack Harkness.

A definite romantic, when he falls in love he falls hard and will move heaven and earth for that person. This was illustrated beautifully when his girlfriend Lisa became a victim to a cyber conversion unit during the battle of Canary Wharf. Begging, talking, manipulating and more than likely sexual distractions allowed him to keep Lisa inside the very heart of the Torchwood hub itself.

When she was discovered and was killed after he'd realised that she was no longer the woman he loved anymore, he suddenly realised he had nothing left in this life...nothing but Jack and Torchwood. Jack possibly knew this and this may have been one of the reasons he allowed him to stay instead of disposing of him.

Their relationship continued and developed as much as it could with a boss who was ready to jump onto a tardis at a seconds notice, Ianto growing more and more fond of the exhuberant captain.

However he is extremely reserved. Small smiles are what you get unless you're very lucky or Paul O' Grady. However, if you're very unlucky you'll get a taser to the head, and should you hurt someone he loves...he has no qualms about pointing a gun to your head.

He's someone who acts far older than his years but you do see snatches of his youth sometimes, usually with gallows humour.

After the death of Jack and the infamous and heartbreaking coat smelling scene, it was evident the attachment that Ianto had formed on the older man. He's quite an emotional man, even if he tries to keep it all locked down bubbled under his suit clad surface. The boy can scream for Wales.

Articulate, smart, dry, complex, loving, determined, resourceful, flirty and with a kinky side that his boss has definitely had a hand in developing. Ianto Jones is a talented young man but one whose life is the work he does and the people associated with that. They give him meaning.
